It is written, JESUS answered them,
verily, verily, I say unto you, WHOSOEVER COMMITS SIN IS THE SERVANT OF SIN. And the servant abides not in the house for ever: but the SON ABIDES EVER. If the SON therefore SHALL MAKE YOU FREE, YOU SHALL BE FREE INDEED. (John 8: 34-36)
This is to say, Jesus Christ came first and foremost to this sinful World to SUFFER, SHED His precious BLOOD, DIED and RESURRECTED to SET YOU FREE from SIN before anything else. Therefore, you must consciously take NOT committing SIN against God seriously, if you are truly a follower of Jesus Christ and you truly desire to enter and enjoy God's REST and BEST in Christ for you par time in this World now and in Heaven some day. This is because, as Jesus Christ revealed in the above scripture reference quoted, you are a SERVANT to the SIN you commit until you are made FREE INDEED from such SIN by the Son of God (Jesus Christ) to become a Son of God in that area of your life. Amazingly true! This means that becoming the Son of God as a Child of God in Christ is deliberate and progressive and never a one time event. That is why Apostle John writes, I wish ABOVE all things, that you prosper, and be in health, even as a your SOUL PROSPER. The prospering of your soul by RENEWING your MIND from the ways and manners of the World with the WORD of God by the HELP of the Holy Spirit of Christ that is within you, so that you can think, speak and live FREE from SIN and do the good, acceptable and perfect WILL of God par time is your PERSONAL and DAILY RESPONSIBILITY according to Romans 12:1,2. True! (Hebrews 5:7-9; 1 John 3; Galatians 3:13,14; Galatians 5:1; 3 John 1:3; Colossians 2:8-10; Romans 8:1-14; Colossians 3:16,17)
